Rural people don’t depend on them

Main-Tauber district. The citizens’ initiative “Frankenbahn-für-alle” is still active. In the course of the district council meeting last Wednesday, Manfred Silberzahn, one of the protagonists of BI, handed over to District Administrator Reinhard Frank a resolution in which District Administrator, District Councilors and parliamentary group leaders are asked for further support for maintaining the hourly service on the route between Osterburken and Würzburg. There are concerns that the state of Baden-Württemberg could stop the test phase at the end of the year if the required number of people – 500 per day – does not come together. The district administration also fears that the offer may not stabilize.

The resolution in the wording: “The BI Frankenbahn-für-alle asks you for urgent support for the maintenance of the regional train on the route between Osterburken and Würzburg. As the current figures show, the state government’s requirement of 500 passenger kilometers per route kilometer is far too high. The current restrictions caused by the corona pandemic (closings of schools, retail stores and home offices) now also threaten the fulfillment of this demand by the Ministry of Transport.

As long as the threatened discontinuation of the current offer at the end of 2022 has not been resolved, the train is not a serious alternative to the car for commuters. Future rail customers must be given a reliable perspective to turn to this mode of transport and thus to gain acceptance in a broad segment of the population increase.

Hurry

With this letter, we ask you, the district administration, together with the district council and for the benefit of the population to take action again. Approach the state government together to clear the 500-person-kilometer barrier. It is imperative that we do this in a hurry. You will agree that after the state elections the chances of being heard are much more difficult.

Remind the Ministry of Transport that the residents of the ‘rural regions’ are also demanding their right to modern mobility concepts. Only in this way can the universally demanded CO2 savings be successfully met.

Take the Ministry of Transport, led by Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, at its word. “We are making the mobility turnaround!” They write on their flags.

This should not only appeal to companies, municipalities or organizations. First of all, the legislator should create the framework conditions. Only he can perform the necessary balancing function between metropolitan areas and the “hinterland”. The politicians should be reminded not only to serve the voters in the cities. “
