Children, adults, heart pathologies, diabetes, obesity … What is the profile of the 7,693 people who have died from COVID-19 in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region since the start of the epidemic?
As of January 24, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region deplores 7,693 deaths attributable to COVID-19 – including 2,101 in the Rhône department. Unsurprisingly, the virus has wreaked havoc mainly on the elderly. However, not all young adults came out unscathed. What is the profile of people who have died in the region since the start of the epidemic?
67.3% of those who died were over 80 years old
Public Health France insists on this point in its report dated January 21: 67.3% of people who died of COVID-19 following their hospitalization were over 80 years old. This also means that 32.7% of the deceased were under 80 years old … But we must not forget the lower age group, the 60-80 years, which still represent nearly a third of deaths . In younger adults, deaths are much lower, yes, but not non-existent. About 3% of those who died were between 40 and 60 years old, only 0.2% between 20 and 40 years old. For the moment, no death is to be deplored among those under 20 years old.
Age, cardiac pathologies and arterial hypertension, the main co-morbidities identified
This has been confirmed since the start of the epidemic: age seems to be one of the main aggravating factors in the event of coronavirus infection. Of the 25 people who died from COVID-19 and aged 20 to 44, three quarters had co-morbidities. The same goes for the 309 people aged 45 to 64 who died. This proportion drops to 64% for those over 75: of the 5,717 elderly people who died, no comorbidity was recorded for just over 2,000 of them.
The most frequently identified co-morbidities in the deceased, often together, are cardiac pathologies and arterial hypertension. Then come diabetes and respiratory or renal pathologies. We also note neurological pathologies, obesity and / or immunodeficiency, but to a lesser extent.
