Cluny. A virtual choir brings together singers from all over the world every Sunday

Launched in December by the Foyer rural de grand secteur Clunisois and Olivier Marcaud, singer and choir director, the project to sing via the Zoom platform, on the internet, allows about sixty enthusiastic participants to meet each Sunday.

“This adventure was a real success because an average of 45 to 60 people are present every Sunday, some in small groups, American, English, French, Dutch, Slovak, Hungarian and Senegalese people who make the effort to sing in languages which are sometimes completely unknown to them. For example, the Fulani language of Senegal or Romani, the Roma language of Slovakia, ”says Olivier Marcaud.

A mixture of cultures

“Five songs are worked on. Today, the participants registered with their phones, from their homes, and sent me their videos so that I could recreate a virtual choir, the result of which will be ready within a few weeks. There are therefore 100 audio and video files sent by the participants, a mixture not only of cultures, ages (from 10 to 80 years old) but also of experiences: professional musicians in Chevagny-sur-Guye, experienced singers in Bagadadji (Casamance, South of Senegal), or in Hungary and Slovakia, and all the others for whom it was the first time that they sang. “

People happy with their experience

“I would like to thank you for this wonderful experience, with you, with these people from all over the world. Thank you also for the opportunity to share a little piece of our culture. I certainly hope that we will not stop there ”, says Gabriella Székácsné Tálas, for example.

For many, these Sunday meetings are a balm, help to hope and to give more voice!
