Hwang Hee-chan, desperate to adapt to the Bundes, is a land of opportunity

[엑스포츠뉴스 김정현 인턴기자] Hwang Hee-chan was given a chance, but he couldn’t make use of it.

Hwang Hee-chan was on the list of substitutions in the 2020/21 season Bundesliga round 18 match between Mainz and Leipzig on the 24th (Korean time).

Hwang Hee-chan was replaced with Dani Olmo in the 76th minute, which was behind by 2-3, and went into the stadium to play the game for 19 minutes. As soon as Hwang Hee-chan entered, he made a chance to equalize the team, but his teammate failed to score and had to watch the team’s defeat.

Hwang Hee-chan played in the league game after a long absence after two matches, but did not show much performance. This season, Hwang Hee-chan has played seven games, including starters and substitutes, but has not recorded a single attack point.

Hwang Hee-chan moved to Leipzig this season and is challenging the Bundesliga for the second time, but is facing ups and downs again.

It seemed that he had an adaptation period while participating in the game at the beginning of the season, but after joining the Korean national team in the A match in November, he was confirmed for Corona 19 and missed six league matches, and the flow stopped.

From Leipzig’s point of view, he paid 9 million euros (approximately 12.1 billion won) for him to sign Hwang Hee-chan, but this season alone, it is a failed signing.

Hwang Hee-chan moved from Salzburg to Leipzig with a rapid growth in the 2019/20 season, but there were concerns about adapting to the league due to the first failed Bundesliga challenge.

Hwang Hee-chan experienced the German stage by transferring to Hamburg, which was a member of the Bundesliga 2 at the time of the 2018/19 season, but only helped with two goals and two in 20 games, and was criticized for his poor performance.

At the time, scoring after the second round seemed to show a good start, but since then, the season has been sluggish due to overlapping injuries and poor performance.

Again this season, Hwang Hee-chan has not been able to score in the league except for the goals he scored in DFB Pokal. Hwang Hee-chan, who spent half a season with no league attack points, has a loan transfer with Mainz, who is currently facing a confrontation on this day.

Leipzig regional magazine RB Live said Leipzig is considering Hwang Hee-chan as a loan candidate, and main striker Jean Philippe Matteta is considering a loan to Mainz, who left for the Premier League.

Hwang Hee-chan is in the relegation zone, but it seems wise to adapt to the Bundesliga where he has the opportunity and seek a resurgence in Leipzig next season.

At this point, it is not easy to get an opportunity with leading resources such as Alexander Soorlos and Emil Forsbury remain firmly in place.

Fortunately, Mainz is not a leading resource, but given that Korea’s senior Ji Dong-won and Mainz’s club has a lot of ties with Korean players, Hwang Hee-chan is expected to have an appropriate opportunity.
