The Alma foundation and the Technical Council for Breast Reconstruction (Cotrema) recognized Olga Sosa’s drive and commitment to support women who have overcome breast cancer and who, from the Federal Congress, managed to declare herself on the third Wednesday of October as National Day on Breast Reconstruction.
In the approval by the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies on October 21, 2018, the deputy for Tampico said that “this initiative in its content implies hope and support for thousands of women who have overcome the tough battle against cancer.” .
Breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women and it is a condition that, if it can be detected early, can be treated with greater hope of success. Women who are diagnosed with breast cancer, face a process that is often long and painful; studies, surgeries and chemotherapies have an impact on the lives of people and their families. Faced with this situation, Olga Sosa has argued “emotional pain is sometimes stronger than physical pain, and surviving is not enough … the pain of being mutilated, being without hair, feeling that dignity as a woman is oppressed by a disease that distinguish age, skin color or social condition ”.
Because of this sensitive attitude and in favor of women of all ages, Alma and Cotrema recognize the work of the deputy who is part of the Gender Equality commission in the Chamber of Deputies.
