He sees “very likely evidence” that suggest death by suffocation, said forensic doctor Michael Bohnert on Friday in front of the Würzburg regional court.

The baby also suffered from “violent violence” and “repeated abuse” until shortly before his death.

The mother’s boyfriend at the time has had to answer for murder in court since October (TAG24 reported). The now 24-year-old German denied at the start of the trial that he had fatally mistreated the child shortly before Christmas 2019.

According to the forensic doctor, the autopsy showed numerous injuries that could not have been caused by an accident or resuscitation, but were deliberately caused.

The then eight-month-old boy had various bruises, bleeding from a fractured skull and a serious injury to the abdomen.

This probably stems from the day of death and can only be explained by a very painful “punch or kick or strong compression of the stomach”.

His lungs also indicated signs of death from suffocation, further rib fractures are of their kind “practically evidence of child abuse”.

The doctor summarized: “In 30 years of work I have only seen such a finding once in a difficult child act.”

The defendant had denied the prosecutor’s allegations that he had mistreated the boy in the weeks before his death.

He just wants the child treated rudely at times and not consciously brought about his death.
