Argentina’s Energy Secretariat announced today, Thursday, that the Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency will set interim rates for transmission and distribution of electricity until an agreement is reached on a specific new pricing strategy.
The Bloomberg News Agency indicated that the agency will hold talks with the country’s electricity companies about the price increase, adding that the talks include the Transinner Electricity Transmission Company and the Ednor and Edesor Electricity Distribution Company.
It is noteworthy that Argentina has been fixing electricity prices for more than a year, and on December 17th, the Argentine government decided to fix electricity and natural gas prices for an additional 90 days.
On October 29, the Argentine government announced that it would not raise energy subsidies as a percentage of GDP.
