Perpignan: the “invisible” of health and medico-social are out

This Thursday, January 21, 2021, health personnel and medico-social workers marched in the middle of the afternoon in Perpignan. As part of a “carnival of struggles”, during which the “invisible”, deprived of salary increases, were in the forefront.

Among them, there was in particular a delegation of employees from the home nursing service of the Perpignan hospital and its specialized Alzheimer’s team (Ssiad-Esa). “We were not entitled to the salary increase of 183 euros granted to other hospital staff. They forgot about us, even though we are making replacements in other departments … There was a hell of a bug!”, estimates a nursing assistant from Ssiad-Esa.

The staff of medico-social establishments (welcoming people with disabilities, etc.) were also present. “With an equivalent diploma, nursing assistants in hospitals were entitled to upgrading, while those in the medico-social sector did not. This risks creating a flight of caregivers to the hospital sector”, underlines Unapei union delegate Ary Duverly.

Several clinics, as well as the Thuir hospital, were also well mobilized as part of the carnival of struggles, which brought together around 80 people. For a parade between Catalunya and Victory squares.
