Again wage sacrifice at FC Groningen due to corona crisis | Football

sport">In May last year it was already collectively agreed by all clubs in professional football that the staff had to make a wage sacrifice before the hand could be held up in The Hague. That agreement expired at the end of 2020, but after consultation with players and staff, FC Groningen decided to extend the period, in any case until the public is allowed to play again or at the latest until June 30, 2021.

Up to tens of thousands of euros per year

sport">For some players, this means that a substantial contribution is made that in individual cases can amount to tens of thousands of euros per year. The rule is: the higher the salary, the more players, trainers and board members hand in. The percentages of the salary vary from 2.5 to a maximum of 20 percent.

sport">General director Wouter Gudde is content with the unanimity at the club and speaks of a great sense of reality. “We hope to be able to count on a lot of support from our supporters again in the coming months, but just like last year, we first want to see what we can do ourselves. We have outlined the situation with players and staff and they understood it very well. Within half an hour they were out and they rallied behind the collective solidarity. It marks the commitment. We are very happy with it. ”
