Freiburg (dpa) – The process of the death of an artist from Europa-Park is threatened with immediate end. According to his defense counsel and the court, the woman’s former partner, who has been accused of manslaughter, is in his home country Cuba and will not be traveling to the start of the trial. Therefore, the proceedings against the 31-year-old could be stopped immediately – without the indictment being read out, said a spokesman for the Freiburg prosecutor. A main hearing could not take place without a defendant.

The Cuban is accused of killing his girlfriend at the end of April 2019 in a shared caravan in Rust (Ortenaukreis) on a square in Europa-Park. Then he is said to have put the body in a plastic bag, weighed it down with dumbbell weights and thrown it into the Old Rhine. It wasn’t until three weeks later that two anglers found the sack and body. According to the public prosecutor, the couple had worked in Germany’s largest amusement park.

According to the court, the Chamber Today will probably deal with the question of whether the man is absent excused and how to proceed. An arrest warrant against the accused does not exist.
