Two deputies accompany transhumants from Jaén | Radio Jaén

Two deputies accompany transhumants through the province of Jaén. Specifically those of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment and that of Promotion and Tourism, Pedro Bruno and Francisco Javier Lozano respectively, who have walked for two days with transhumants from Santiago Pontones. Two intense days to the El Condado region in a journey made with the aim of approaching new lines of collaboration by the Provincial Council of Jaén aimed both at improving the activity of the livestock sector and promoting the promotion of transhumance and the Segureño lamb.

The agriculture deputy Pedro Bruno explained that “we wanted share experiences with them, accompany them and see what problems they have, that they transfer their needs to us and analyze how else the provincial administration can collaborate with the field of livestock, a sector that helps to fix the population to the territory and generate wealth and employment in our rural environment “. They have accompanied the ranchers during their passage through the municipality of Beas de Segura, in a section of the route that they do regularly between the population of Cañada Morales and El Cornicabral.

And the fact is that there is a lot “the potential that livestock and transhumance at the promotion level as a tourist destination within the framework of Jaén, an interior paradise and to link it to other resources such as astrotourism “, as argued by the tourism deputy Francisco Javier Lozano, recalling that” part of the route of these ranchers runs through sections of the Gran Sendero GR-247 of the Sierras Natural Park from Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, as well as the Camino de San Juan de la Cruz ”.

As every year

At this time, and each year, about thirty farmers move around 40,000 head of cattle from Santiago-Pontones to warmer areas of the province of Jaén such as El Condado or Sierra Morena in “a journey of about 100 kilometers that takes place over five days approximately and this year has been marked by the harsh weather conditions of the last days “, explained Bruno.

The Provincial Council supports these unique farmers with “actions to support the marketing of Segureño lamb, the annual call for aid for farmers or the implementation of initiatives to promote this product. Only in 2020 it is expected to grant more than 240,000 euros in aid to transhumant livestock and granting more than 60,000 to cattle farms ”, concluded the deputies.
