“Sometimes our patients need a combination of 2 drugs to control their colitis. Some also require surgery to remove the inflamed intestine, ”said dr. Rabbinu Rangga Pribadi, Sp.PD, Specialist in Internal Medicine RSCM-FKUI.

Basically, the first difficulty most often faced is confirming the diagnosis in such patients whether IBD or colitis is caused by another infection. The second difficulty that is also most often faced is the limited access of patients to biological agents due to costs. In fact, various studies have shown that biological agents have great benefits, especially in IBD patients with moderate and severe degrees of severity.

Doctor Rabbinu also appealed to awareness and knowledge about IBD for IBD patients, families, and caregivers, even for the wider community so that awareness of the dangers of IBD is increasing. When diagnosed with IBD, patients need to understand that the inflammatory process in this disease can subside if committed to treatment and lifestyle modification with a diet appropriate to IBD levels and exercise.
