Explosion in the center of Madrid
At least two people were killed in an explosion in the Spanish capital, Madrid. More people were injured. Several floors of a house were destroyed in the explosion. The roof and the facade were blown away in parts. According to the city’s emergency service, the house was searched for possible victims. According to Spanish media reports there were also clergy apartments in the house. In the reports, government circles were quoted as suspecting a gas leak as the cause of the explosion. The police and fire brigade blocked the affected street in central Madrid, and numerous emergency services were on duty. Some injured people were treated on the sidewalk. Residents of a nursing home next to the affected house were brought to safety. None of the seniors are said to have been injured.
