Three National Guard soldiers were killed Wednesday night when their helicopter crashed in upstate New York.
The accident occurred during a routine training exercise in Mendon, south of Rochester, authorities, quoted by CNN, said, adding that the first calls to 911 reported the accident around 6:30 p.m.
An investigation was quickly opened to determine the causes of the crash, according to the New York Division of Military and Naval Affairs.
In a statement picked up by local media, the governor of New York said he was “devastated” by the tragic death of the three soldiers and called for the flags to be lowered on Thursday.
