Mental health put to the test
Saturday, January 9, 2021, around 2 a.m., a law master student at the University of Lyon-3 defeated himself from his room in a university residence in Villeurbanne.
Romain Narbonnet, a student in the same course, testifies: “There was a huge puddle of blood, it was really impressive […] She stayed there for 48 hours in this pond. It was psychologically very heavy. “
Three days after the tragedy, another student from the same faculty threatens to end her life. Fortunately, she is prevented from doing so by her comrades.
“There is student precariousness, which has unfortunately existed for decades, but there is now also isolation, which is too much weight on the backs of students”, analyzes Romain Narbonnet.
Isolation in CROUS residences
In the residences of the University of Lyon-3, the rooms are 10 square meters. “When I am in my room, in width, I stretch out my arms, I touch the two walls. I take three steps forward and that’s the length of my room”, describes Romain Narbonnet.

Students are forced to follow their lessons from a distance in this tiny space. Nothing allows them to escape since even the university kitchen, previously a place of life and socialization, can now only accommodate two or three students, and for a few minutes.
A general mobilization this Wednesday
Student unions called for mobilization across the country this Wednesday afternoon.
In Bordeaux, around 150 students gathered at Place de la Victoire, to demand the generalized return of face-to-face classes.
