Weather – Offenbach am Main – snow, wind and slippery roads: milder from Wednesday – panorama

Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – Snowfalls, strong winds and freezing wetness caused problems for drivers in some regions of Hesse on Tuesday. In Vogelsberg, the police temporarily blocked roads around Lautertal-Engelrod because gritting vehicles couldn’t even get through there, said a police spokesman. In the Rhön, too, road users would have to be prepared for obstructions and snow drifts. There were initially no major accidents, said the spokesman.

The winter weather also brought restrictions for hikers and winter sports enthusiasts. The plank path in the Red Moor in the Rhön, which is popular with day-trippers, was closed due to the risk of Scheebruch, as was the cross-country ski trails on the moor.

The coming days are likely to be changeable, but less wintry: After freezing wetness in the mountains and several centimeters of fresh snow in the high elevations of the Rhön on Tuesday, it should remain free of precipitation on Wednesday, as the German Meteorological Service in Offenbach announced. In the afternoon there should be longer, sunny sections with maximum temperatures of seven to nine degrees, especially in the south, and around five degrees in the higher mountains. There should be a moderate to fresh wind from the southwest, occasionally there may be strong gusts and occasionally stormy gusts in the mountainous region.

Thursday then starts overcast and with rain, which subsides over the course of the day. The maximum temperatures could then reach seven to ten degrees and four to six degrees in the mountains. A moderate to strong wind from the southwest is expected, at times also strong to stormy gusts and in the mountains also gusts of wind. Friday should then initially be very cloudy with rain, which will move east from noon. Then there can be temporary loosening. The maximum temperatures should be between six and nine degrees, in the mountains two to five degrees are reached. In addition, a stormy south-westerly wind blows at the beginning, which should initially ease from the west, during the day strong gusts are expected again in the mountainous region.
