Transfer: Mandzukic, an “additional weapon” for AC Milan, rejoices Pioli

Mandzukic won four Italian league titles and three Italian Cups with Juventus (2015-2019).

The arrival of Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic, who is due to sign with AC Milan on Tuesday until the end of the season, is “One more weapon”, rossonero coach Stefano Pioli said on Monday.

“I’m happy, it’s an extra weapon. The club has become ambitious again, the arrival of Mandzukic goes in this direction. There may be injuries, positive cases (with coronavirus), a lot of players are needed “, he commented on Sky after the victory in Cagliari (2-0) which allowed his team to regain a three-point lead at the top of Serie A at the end of the 18th day.

“When the club proposed Mandzukic to me, I immediately said yes, he’s a winner, he’s motivated, he’ll bring us new solutions”, he added, while specifying that it will probably take a little time for the ex-striker of Juventus and Bayern Munich, aged 34 and without a club since the summer, finds a good physical shape.

“There are so many matches planned between the championship, the Italian Cup, the Europa League, there will inevitably be turnover”, he recalled while Mandzukic is mainly expected to offer an alternative in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has already missed around fifteen matches this season (all competitions) due to the coronavirus and injuries.

According to the press, Mandzukic will be engaged initially until the end of the season.

The Croatian vice-world champion left Juventus in December 2019 to join Qatari club Al-Duhail with whom he terminated his contract last summer.

With Juventus (2015-2019), Mandzukic won four Italian league titles and three Italian Cups. He had previously worn the colors of Atlético Madrid (2014-2015), Bayern Munich (2012-2014), Wolfsburg (2010-2012), and Dinamo Zagreb (2007-2010).
