Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – Many Hessians used the wintry weather at the weekend for an excursion. In some winter sports areas, the police found larger numbers of visitors. In view of the high corona numbers, there were again restrictions for winter sports enthusiasts and day trippers in some places at the weekend. Overall, however, it remained calm.
On Sunday noon, the police had to move out on several missions. In Giessen there was a four-digit number of walkers near the Schiffenberg monastery, as a police spokesman announced. The parking lot was full, the driveway had to be blocked. The police had called the walkers with loudspeaker announcements to leave the area. There were no difficulties, so the operation could be ended quickly, as the spokesman said.
In Northern Hesse, the parking lots around the “Hohe Gras” and the “Herkules” were well attended on Sunday. “It was partly full, but not too full,” said a police spokesman. According to the Kassel police, the situation in the winter sports area of Willingen remained relaxed over the weekend. The parking lots were well frequented on Saturday, but otherwise there was no major rush. The occupied parking spaces were all outside the restricted zones. In the popular ski area, all slopes and the associated parking spaces were closed from Friday up to and including Sunday. In the event of a possible rush of visitors, it would otherwise not be possible to monitor compliance with hygiene and distance rules, the city had justified the decision.
The police in Darmstadt reported a large number of visitors in Beerfelden and Wald-Michelbach in the Odenwald on Sunday. The police and the public order office made loudspeaker announcements and diverted the traffic. According to the police, there have been no violations of the applicable Corona regulations.
In Fulda, the police did not register any large crowds on Sunday. The parking spaces at high altitudes were therefore closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nevertheless, winter sports enthusiasts arrived early in the morning, so that in some places a park occupancy rate of around 50 to 70 percent could be determined, said a spokesman. Overall, the number of visitors was much lower than on the previous weekends.
In contrast to the previous weekend, the situation in the Hochtaunus remained relaxed. Around the Feldberg, for example, the parking spaces were well frequented on Saturday, but only a few parking offenders or violations of the Corona restrictions were found.
