Available for a few weeks on consoles and PC, Dirt 5 revolutionizes the series. The title of Codemasters is the 14th in the series initiated with the Colin McRae Rally at the time of the Playstation 1. An experience that oscillated between simulation and arcade in previous games. Here the bias is clear. It’s fun!

We tested the game on Xbox Series X and Playstation 4, just to see what the new generation of consoles offers as improvements. If the load times are much shorter on the Xbox, the leap forward in graphics is not phenomenal. As for the sensations of driving or rendering of collisions, they are identical. In short, it is a transition game and it is possible to enjoy it on all media. That being said, let’s dive right into the essence of Dirt 5. Fun is everything. Exit the simulation side. The soundtrack is full of vitamins, the French commentaries are punctuated and the artistic direction gives pride of place to bright colors and special effects that splash the retina. It’s pretty, quick and edgy.
Beautiful body, aging engine
As for driving sensations, we are a little bit hungry. If the dynamic weather, which can make a muddy track in the second lap is very pleasant, the lack of realism of the collisions removes a lot of challenge during the races. It’s arcade, OK, but sometimes a little too nag. Content level, Dirt 5 is very generous. We are far from the title focused solely on rallying. Ice racing, sprinting, rally-raid or even gymkhana, the modes are very varied, as well as the 13 classes of vehicles ranging from ancestors to buggies including pick-ups. The multiplayer mode is quite complete both locally and online, with also a Playgrounds mode allowing you to create courses and set the best lap times. If you like to go for it without taking the lead, Dirt 5 is for you.
