Living, culture and a new railway line

Dhe new year also occupies the science city with the same theme that the old one ended with: Corona. But maybe there will soon be encouraging news: From January 19, the vaccination center in the Darmstadtium Congress Center will finally start work. If things progress quickly and the tightened containment measures take effect, Corona may no longer be so ubiquitous in the foreseeable future.

At the Darmstadt Clinic, which acts as the coordinating hospital for the Darmstadt, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Bergstrasse, Odenwald and Groß-Gerau supply areas during the pandemic, everything still revolves around the virus. The situation in the clinics in the region has been tense since the beginning of the year. Nevertheless, one hopes “that the situation will relax by Easter,” says a spokeswoman. Perhaps then it will be time to celebrate the opening of the new clinic campus on Grafenstrasse. The first building application for the area was submitted in 2014, and everything has been ready since the end of last year. 20 departments, including the eye clinic, which previously operated in the Eberstadt district, as well as the maternity clinic from Bessungen, had moved to Grafenstrasse by December 2020 with ongoing operations. 2021 will be the first year in which the new clinic with around 1000 beds will be fully available to patients, employees and visitors. “There are only a few measures to be taken, including the outdoor facilities,” says the clinic spokeswoman. But these are small things.
