Use Face ID with a mouth mask
Unfortunately, Face ID does not work if half of your face is covered with a mouth mask. Fortunately, there are two ways to make Face ID work with a mouth mask.
# 1 Reset Face ID
One of the options is to reset your Face ID.
Go to you Settings and to Face ID and passcode .
Tap on Set up Face ID again.
Fold half of your mouth mask inward so that one half is covered and the other half free.
Follow the steps. If your iPhone says your face is covered, move part of the mask until you can continue the process.
If the first scan is successful, keep your mouth mask in the same place. Also do the second scan.
Were both scans successful? Then you can put on your mouth mask completely and try it out.
It is now possible to use your iPhone with or without a mouth mask Face ID to unlock.
Face masks are available in different colors and with patterns. It is good to know that your Face ID now works with both non-medical disposable mouth masks, and with cloth masks with, for example, a leopard pattern. If you’ve reset Face ID, you’ll need to properly reset some apps to sign in with Face ID. Do you log in with Face ID on your banking app, for example? Then you will have to turn on Face ID via the settings of the app.
Disclaimer
Note that adding a new face mask appearance will make Face ID recognition less accurate. After all, Face ID now has fewer facial features available to make sure it’s you unlocking the iPhone. So be aware that you compromise on security with the method below.
