Jerdy Schouten has developed into a versatile midfielder at Bologna who is being watched by national coach Frank de Boer. The 24-year-old footballer came through Telstar and Excelsior in the A league rightly so, where he makes a big impression.
The big clubs in the Netherlands ignored Schouten and that seems to have been a mistake. “But it is too easy to blame the Dutch top clubs”, says the protagonist himself in a large interview with Football International. “Ultimately, talent always comes to the surface. This is the result of the choice I have made and that they have made. That is fine and there will be reasons for it. But this competition turns out to be just right, especially in terms of playing.”
The midfielder from Hellevoetsluis can show excellent figures in Serie A. He is the number six on the list of midfielders with the highest percentage of successful dribbles and after Manuel Locatelli of Sassuolo and Franck Kessié of AC Milan, he captured the most balls. “The best part is that my way of playing football was not expected of me for a long time. Over the years I have grown in this role and also picked it up in Italy.”
Frank de Boer announced at a press conference that he is following Schouten’s operations near Bologna. So it seems like a matter of time before the blonde number six receives a call-up for the Dutch national team.
