Derby County announced on the 15th (Korean time) that it would appoint Wayne Rooney, the acting manager, as the official manager. This officially ended Wayne Rooney’s career.
Wayne Rooney shared his feelings through his SNS, saying, “I love every moment I play as a player, but I am excited to start a managerial position on a great team called Derby County,” and “Thank you to everyone who gave me a message.”
Wayne Rooney debuted in Everton at the age of 16 in 2002/03, ending his 19-year career until 2021, when he was 35.
Rooney spent 12 years at Manchester United after playing Everton, and after playing for Everton in the 2017/18 season, he moved to MLS DC United in the United States and played for two seasons.
Later, in the 2019/20 season, Rooney transferred to the English Championship League Derby County as a playing coach. When coach Philip Koku, who was then manager, stepped down due to poor performance, Rooney ended his last year with acting as manager and player.
Rooney scored 208 goals in the Premier League alone, ranking second in all-time Premier League goals after Alan Shearer, and is also the record holder of Manchester United with 253 goals in total.
Rooney has won numerous trophies, including five Premier League championships, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Europa League championship, one FA Cup championship, and four League Cup championships.
Rooney’s national career was also in history. Rooney played 120 A-matches and finished second after goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s 125 appearances in the 1970s.
In addition, Rooney played in 120 games, scoring 53 goals, overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton, and is also the main character of England’s most goals.
After 19 years of playing, Rooney took the first step in his coaching career by taking over as official manager of Derby County after former coach Philip Koku.
