Lana Del Rey’s next album, “Chemtrails over the Country Club”, will be available on March 19, 2021. A first extract of this new disc has just been unveiled by the singer, accompanied by a clip faithful to her universe inked in the sixties, but this time with a darker and more pessimistic touch.
King’s wool is she about to make an artistic turn? The 35-year-old singer, who had so far accustomed her audiences to a universe as glamorous as it was vintage, released on January 11, 2021 the clip of Chemtrails over the Country Club, the title song of his new album. A video in which recklessness gives way to nightmare, and which seems to echo a rant pushed by the star in May 2020 on social networks.
In February 2017, Lana Del Rey published a tweet in which she showed a certain interest in witchcraft. His latest clip confirms this attraction for the occult sciences. If the video of Chemtrails over the Country Club starts with an accumulation of shots reminiscent of the sixties with nostalgia, the second part of the clip turns into horror and mystique. We see the singer made up as a vampire, a witch, part of a sorority of creatures with shining and threatening looks. The saturated colors give way to darkness, a night in which the howls of wolves resound. An artistic metamorphosis that some already attribute to a fed up with the singer.
“There must be a place in feminism for women who look like me”
In May 2020, Lana Del Rey had a rant on Instagram. In a text published as a photo, the singer attacked other stars of pop music: “Now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have hit the hard times with songs about being sexy, not wearing any clothes, kissing, being unfaithful, etc …, can I please go back to singing songs that talk about being good in your body (…) without getting demolished or being accused of making the abuse glamorous? (…) There must be a place in feminism for women who look like me and act like me.“
For several observers, among whom Les Inrockuptibles, the interpreter of Summertime Sadness would display in this clip “his willingness to settle some scores“. The images suggest in any case that the star would have finally found, within the group of disturbing women that she joins at the end of the video, a place which seems to suit her. The album” Chemtrails Over the Country Club “Will it be darker than Lana Del Rey’s previous records? Answer in the spring.
