Chile and Russia, major buyers of meat – National

The same foreign trade report shows that Chile is the largest consumer of our meat, with 38% of the market. In 2020, 103 thousand tons worth US $ 445 million were exported to that country, 20% more than what was exported in 2019.

The second largest buyer is Russia with 20% of the total for US $ 232 million. This despite the 30% decline in the acquisition by the Russian market compared to 2019, when US $ 332 million was exported to that market.

However, diversification towards other markets such as Taiwan, Israel, and Egypt helped offset this sharp decline in exports to Russia.

According to the data, 25 tons of meat were exported to Taiwan worth US $ 116 million, which represents an increase of 62% compared to 2019. But the most significant variations were those registered in Hong Kong where demand increased by 923%, Egypt increased 767%, and Kuwait 114%.

Italy offers better price

On the other hand, the average price of meat in 2020 was 1.1% lower than that registered in the previous year, despite the fact that increases were observed in Egypt (25.9%), Hong Kong (9.8%), Italy (7.7%), Russia (4.8%), Taiwan (4.2%), and Israel (1.9%). However, Italy has been the destination that paid the best for Paraguayan meat, with an average price of US $ 6,362 per ton.
