here is the new Faculty of Medicine in Unisalento

Business creation and attraction. It is the other side of the coin of the degree program in Medicine – fresh from the favorable opinion of the Curc (Regional University Coordination Committee-Puglia) – that, if the Miur will give the green light, will be activated in the next academic year a UniSalento. An objective put in black and white in the over 190 pages of the project-dossier drawn up by UniSalento in which an ambition that goes far beyond the training of doctors is manifested.

Medicina is part of the wider project that last summer saw its first steps take with the establishment of the Salento biomedical district and which will then have to land in the future wellness district. The activation of the degree course will require, when fully operational, the recruitment of 21 professors between I or II bracket and type B researchers (researchers who at the end of the three-year period can switch to associates after the positive evaluation of the activity carried out). The financial commitment for the Region is 1.5 million euros, but the expenditure chapter was opened with the symbolic sum of 100 thousand euros. The reasons for the direction taken by UniSalento with the rector Fabio Pollice are substantiated in the project and rely on the concentration on a territorial level “of public and private actors operating in the biomedical sector with areas of specialization of national and international importance such as tissue engineering or biomedical monitoring and sensoring ».
In addition, there is the recent activation of the degree course in Biomedical Engineering «which already shows a strong specialization in Wellness and which today would be able to support the first three years of a degree in Medicine and Surgery.

The acquisition of 9 teachers, with a budget stabilized at 15 years, will make it possible to exceed the minimum teaching requirements. The completion of the teaching staff will take place progressively, in implementation of the Achievement Plan, with the recruitment of additional teachers (II level professors or RtdB), using external resources borne by both the Lecce Asl and the Puglia Region “.

The study plan currently provides for the activation of courses for a total of 172 ECTS and is explained in the UniSalento document 140 ECTS for the 360 ECTS course plus 32 ECTS for the optional course. The acquisition of 20 I or II level teachers and 23 RtdB is foreseen for the needs of teaching activated in the context of! 27 scientific-disciplinary sectors of the degree course in Medicine being established (for a total of 115 CFU), through the acquisition of an external budget, with external resources borne by the ASL of Lecce ».
