Woman accused of transporting a minor for genital mutilation | Univision 45 Houston KXLN

HOUSTON, Texas. – A citizen of the United Kingdom but a resident of Houston was accused by a grand jury of having taken a minor abroad and wanting to perform a genital mutilation.

Zahra Badri, 39, is charged with circumcision, excision or infibulation of the labia majora, labia minora or clitoris of a minor. “Female genital mutilation is child abuse,” said prosecutor Ryan K. Patrick, in a news release.

Badri would have traveled between July 10 and 14, 2016 to take the minor to a kind of foreign trade and mutilate her genitals. “Unnecessary medical procedures in children will not be tolerated,” stressed the prosecutor, who assured that the damage he was going to cause is well documented.

The investigation of the case was carried out by the FBI in conjunction with the Center for War Crimes and Human Rights Violators (Hrvwcc, for its acronym in English).

One of the deputy prosecutors said that female genital mutilation practiced in a “brutal” manner can bring lifelong physical and psychological trauma to the victim.
