Samsung officially announced its newest System-on-Chip (SoC) Exynos 2100 which targets the flagship smartphone market.
Later, chipsets Exynos 2100 will be a strong competitor to Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 which is both competing in the flagship market.
So, what are the advantages of chipsets Exynos 2100?
Exynos 2100 made with Extreme Ultra Violet (EUV) technology which is claimed to be a 5 nm fabricated SoC. Amazingly, the chipset has 5G connectivity. Not surprisingly, the chip’s performance can be ‘faster’ by up to 10 percent, and save up to 20 percent of power compared to the top chipset of the previous generation Exynos.
“Exynos 2100 will be a flagship chip in the future, “said Inyup Kang, President of Systems LSI Business Samsung Electronics.
Modem 5G Exynos 2100 offers data transfer rates of up to 5.1 Gbps in the sub-6 GHz and mmWave spectrum (7.35 Gbps downlink / 3.67 Gbps uplink). This speed is almost similar to the 5G Snapdragon 888 speed, which with the Snapdragon X60 4G LTE and 5G multimode modem that produces 7.5 Gbps downlink (5G NR mmW) and 3 Gbps uplink (5G NR mmW).
Exynos 2100 also supports 4G LTE Cat.24 network with a downlink speed of 3 Gbps and 4G LTE Cat.18 with an uplink speed of 422 Mbps. In addition to a 5G modem, Exynos 2100 It is also equipped with a CPU consisting of a single Cortex-X1 + core, three high-speed Cortex-A78 + cores, and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores.
Graphics processing Exynos 2100 entrusted to the GPU MaliG78 MP14. While the Snapdragon 888 has a configuration of 1x ARM Cortex X1 @ 2.84GHz, 3x ARM Cortex A78 @ 2.4GHz, and 4x ARM Cortex A55 @ 1.8GHz, with GPU Adreno 660.
Samsung Exynos 2100 supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS v3.1 storage technology. To support AI processing, Exynos 2100 also carries the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to process tasks related to artificial intelligence functions so that they can be processed directly on the device.
From a photographic aspect, Exynos 2100 supports the use of a camera with a resolution of 200 megapixels or a dual camera with a 32 MP + 32 MP configuration. Image Signal Processor (ISP) on this chip is able to process data from six camera sensors.
Exynos 2100 also supports 8K video recording at 60 fps with High Efficiency Video Coding / HEVC H.265 and VP9 encoding and decoding. Other features include screen support for 4K (120Hz) and QHD Plus (144Hz) resolution, as well as a Multi Camera and Frame Processor (MCFP) to improve zoom performance, especially when used in ultra wide shooting modes.
Samsung reportedly starting mass production Exynos 2100 earlier this year. Even so, Samsung has yet to announce which phones will adopt Exynos 2100.
