The first of around 30,000 vaccines against COVID-19 that are expected to arrive in Baja California this month to protect the health sector were applied today.
In a formal ceremony led by state authorities, the first to receive this dose of Pfizer were doctors and nurses from the General Hospital of Tijuana, ISSSTE, ISSSTECALI, IMSS and a doctor from the private health sector.
This first phase includes doctors, nurses, laboratory personnel, those with direct contact to the COVID-19 areas such as quartermaster, social workers, nutrition and orderlies, among others.
On Tuesday night, about 10,000 doses arrived in Tijuana that will be distributed in all municipalities of the state. A second shipment with a similar quantity is expected next week.
It is expected that before the end of the month “100 percent of the public and private health sector” will be vaccinated in Baja California, said the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico.
From February to April, adults over 60 will be vaccinated and later, people with diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, among others.
From April to May, people between 50 and 59 years old will be vaccinated; from May to June, from 40 to 49 years old. Finally, from June to March 2022 to the rest of the population, Pérez Rico reported.
“The vaccine is an additional weapon in our fight against COVID, but we cannot relax the measures we have,” the official stressed. “We have to continue with social distancing, the use of face masks, hand washing, cleaning surfaces and objects, and go to clinics early.”
“In this way we will win the war. Today is the beginning of the end ”, he stressed.
Baja California remains at the red epidemiological traffic light, with more than 36,000 confirmed cases and just over 6,000 deaths from COVID-19.

Minutes after being vaccinated, she thanked the authorities for giving priority to the health sector. “We hope to continue working. I am grateful with life, with God, with my family, and I hope there will be a nurse for a while ”.
