Pro-Bolsonaro TV presenter dies of covid-19 after mocking the virus

The Brazilian TV presenter Stanley Gusman, 49, died of complications from covid-19 after going public, minimizing the dangers of this virus. The communicator is famous in his country for presenting the “Alterosa Alert” program, where he took a critical position in relation to the pandemic.

The controversial communicator was against the isolation measures proposed by the mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandre Kalil, and was suspicious of the efficacy of the vaccines. “I prefer to bring a million chloroquine to VaChina”, wrote in a tweet.

Gusman always opened his daily show at lunchtime, one of the most watched on TV Alterosa, in Brazil. Throughout 2020, the presenter not only stood out for directing the tabloid and police broadcast, but also for openly positioning himself against the social isolation measures imposed during the pandemic, less than a month after criticizing Kalil, who recommended to the city’s population to avoid Christmas family gatherings.

In another tweet, the host talked about missing his parents. “I am the son of a retired sergeant and a teacher who specializes in literacy. They are both 75 years old. I called and asked them because of the fear of the virus. They replied: We are afraid of not seeing you! Come and hug us! I will defend my parents and my country! I will visit you!

After five days of these statements, the presenter began to feel the first symptoms of the disease. Colleagues from the chain who spoke about Stanley before his hospitalization say that he was confident in his recovery because was being treated with hydroxychloroquine.

On January 4, he felt short of breath and was admitted to the ICU in serious condition. The hospital that treated him, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, reported that the presenter’s death was caused by a secondary infection derived from the new coronavirus.

Brazil has already exceeded 200,000 deaths, a figure only surpassed by the United States, while President Jair Bolsonaro, whom Gusman praised, continues to minimize the effects of the pandemic and has not yet given a date for vaccination.
