Miami, FL.- The Univision network announced this Tuesday that it will launch the live video service PrendeTV in the first quarter of this year, which it has defined as “the only streaming service created exclusively for the Hispanic audience in the United States with free programming 100% in Spanish.” .
“PrendeTV is an important initial step in Univision’s broader efforts to forge the same leadership position we have in Spanish-language television in the emerging Spanish-language streaming environment,” Wade Davis, CEO of Univision, said in a statement.
The service will have 30 channels and will include programming from Univision, Televisa and “international partners,” including soap operas, magazine-style shows and sports. It will also have Hollywood blockbuster movies and popular series in English, with audio in Spanish, the company said.

This is Univision’s first major project since the company was handed over to Searchlight, a global private investment firm, in December 2020; ForgeLight LLC, an investment and operating company focused on the media and consumer technology sectors, and Televisa.
“The announcement about PrendeTV two weeks after the closing of our Univision acquisition highlights our focus and commitment to rapidly drive transformation and growth for the company. Our audience does not have access to anything like PrendeTV today, and it will completely change the environment of streaming video in Spanish-language media in the United States, “said Davis.
“With the launch of PrendeTV we are focused on offering new ways for our advertisers to reach the Hispanic audience in the United States and, most importantly, PrendeTV will be a crucial aspect of our strategy to increase the reach of our commercial alliances with our main distributors. ”, He added.
The video library of Telemundo, Univision’s main competitor in the United States, can be found on the Peacock streaming service, which includes all the content from NBC Universal, the company that owns that network.
For their part, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix have added to their offer a large number of series, soap operas and movies produced by different media in Latin America and Spain, in addition to their own original content that includes audio in Spanish.
In addition, Prime Video has incorporated into its service the PantaYA channel, a “streaming” platform created by Televisa and the LionsGate studios.
