Razer Announces Project Hazel, the Smart Mask to Protect You from COVID-19 | THE IMPARTIAL

Razer doesn’t just make computers or peripherals for gamers. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the company has manufactured masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and now it plans to take the next step. During its wave of announcements at CES 2021, an N95 mask designed for the end consumer stands out.

Known as Project Hazel, the mask is the answer to a new normal that requires the use of “safe, social and sustainable” equipment. The N95 grade mask protects the user against the spread of SARS-CoV 2 and other microorganisms.

In terms of specifications, Project Hazel has two circular zones that allow fresh air to enter and help release the heat caused when we exhale. Both inlets filter the air, including the CO2 we expel.

The body is designed with a recycled plastic and a silicone band that conforms to the shape of the face. One of its main characteristics is that it is translucent, so other people can see the movements of your mouth when you speak. Combined with the integrated microphone and amplifiers, we will not have problems with the voice distortion that occurs with conventional masks.

Razer mask includes customizable Chroma LEDs

Project Hazel is available in black and white colors and includes Chroma LEDs on the edge of the filters. Razer bets on the social component and we would not be surprised if the lights could be customized with the help of its Synapse software.

Although Razer ensures that this mask is surgical grade, the device will need the approval of the health authorities of each country. As an additional measure of disinfection, the mask is stored in a box that has ultraviolet light capable of killing viruses. According to The Verge, Razer mentioned that the latter is just a concept, indicates Hypertextual.

At the moment it is unknown if Project Hazel will hit the market and what the price will be. If it materializes, Razer would join the group of manufacturers trying their luck in the field of masks. In 2020 and a few months after the start of the pandemic, Xiaomi announced the KN95 Smart Mask that was distributed in China and other countries around the world.

Although 2021 will be the year of mass vaccination, the use of masks will be essential and we will not get rid of them for a while. Project Hazel’s proposal is for a product for daily use that is part of your collection, almost like your keyboards or mice.
