Arthritis can attack any joint in the body, including the joint of the feet, so you should be careful because having pain in the middle of the night is a sign of osteoporosis.
There are 33 joints in the foot, which can be painful due to osteoporosis. What are the symptoms of a health condition? How can pain be dealt with better? .. This is what we review according to the British “Express” newspaper.
The British Arthritis Charity has indicated that feeling pain in your feet at night can be an indication of the condition. In particular, osteoporosis has three common symptoms, which are: pain and swelling in the affected joints; Stiffness, especially if you have not moved in a while; Joints appear larger than normal shape.
Some people with osteoarthritis may hear a creaking or grinding nose when moving their feet and ankles, and a person with a healthy condition may also feel unsteady while standing on their feet.
What is the joint?
A joint is the part of the body where two or more bones meet, and that usually goes through a cycle of damage and repair during a lifetime. When the repair process changes the shape or structure of the joint, known as osteoporosis, this causes cartilage damage, a hard but slippery surface that cushions the end of the bone.
Usually, cartilage is in place to help the bones move against each other without friction, however, cartilage damage can cause the bones to rub against each other, causing pain and swelling.
The wrong repair process can also cause spur increases at the edge of the bone, causing the joint to change shape, sometimes the bone and cartilage separate and float in the joint, causing more discomfort.
If you suspect osteoarthritis, you should see your doctor to discuss your concerns.
Pain management
Although it may seem counterintuitive, exercise can improve joint inflammation by “feeding your joint cartilage”.
To help treat the distressing symptoms of the condition, it may be helpful to take paracetamol before starting an exercise.
Three types of activities are highly encouraged to deal with osteoporosis:
Stretching – To help maintain and improve range of motion in the joints.
Strengthening – to help maintain and support muscle and joint strength.
Aerobic Fitness – Activity that increases the heart rate.
Maintaining a healthy weight can also reduce foot pain due to osteoporosis.
Being overweight (a BMI of 25 or more) puts extra stress on the joints in the feet and ankles.
the shoes
“Getting the right shoes is very important to prevent further damage to your feet and ankles.”
Consider buying shoes with a 1 cm gap between the end of your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
Since the feet tend to swell in the afternoon, it is best to try new shoes during the day to see if they fit well.
Avoid flip-flops and ballet shoes that do not provide support, and instead opt for thick, cushioned slippers.
Choose shoes with a wide toe, which means your toes can spread while you walk, and with a low heel.
Feet size can change too, so measure your feet to make sure you are requesting the correct size.
Osteoporosis can lead to other foot problems, such as bunions and a rigid thumb.
What is rigid hallux valgus?
With cartilage completely eroded by osteoporosis, the bones in the feet may fuse together.
When this happens to the big toe, it is known as a rigid thumb, which makes it difficult to move the big toe and walk properly.
