New York City will terminate all of its multi-million dollar contracts with the Trump Organization, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.
“The president incited a rebellion against the United States government that killed five people and threatened to derail the constitutional transfer of power,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“New York City will not associate itself with those unforgivable acts in any way or form, and we are taking immediate action to terminate all Trump Organization contracts,” the mayor added.
“New York City does not do business with insurrectionists,” the mayor wrote in a message on social media.

According to de Blasio, the city’s legal team “has made an evaluation and the contracts make it very clear, if a company, the leadership of that company, is involved in criminal activity, we have the right to break the contract,” according to statements in the MSNBC string.
“Inciting an insurrection – let’s be clear, I am going to say these words again, inciting an insurrection against the US government – clearly constitutes criminal activity,” the mayor said.
De Blasio said the Trump Organization makes about $ 17 million a year in profits from its contracts to run two ice skating rinks and a carousel in Central Park, as well as a golf course in the Bronx.
The move to end Trump’s business contracts in the city he previously called home is the latest example of how the Jan.6 assault on the Capitol by violent Trump supporters is hurting the Republican president’s business interests.
The PGA of America voted Sunday to strip the PGA Championship from its New Jersey golf course next year, a move that came after social media platforms deactivated Trump accounts and Shopify removed stores in line affiliated with it.
The municipal government entity (Corporation) handling the contracts will notify the Trump Organization that the City will begin the process to cancel its agreements to operate the Central Park Carousel, Wollman and Lasker skating rinks, and the Ferry Point golf course in accordance with with the steps described in the contracts.
“Trump’s incitement to violence on our Capitol was an abomination,” said corporate attorney James E. Johnson.
“In light of last week’s attack on our Capitol and our democracy, we have concluded that it is in the best interest of New Yorkers for the City to begin the process of canceling these contracts and ending its business ties with the Organization. Trump, “the attorney added.
However, the break with Trump’s company of the same name will not happen immediately. De Blasio said in a press release that terminating the contract to run the Ferry Point golf course in the Bronx is complex “and is expected to take several months.”
The termination of the contract to run Wollman Rink and Lasker Rink in Central Park will take effect 30 days after written notice is provided, de Blasio said. The termination of the contract to run the carousel, which is now closed, will go into effect 25 days after written notice.
The city will seek new suppliers for all attractions, the mayor said.
Removing Trump’s name from the tracks, carousel and golf course will not erase him from New York City. It will continue to operate Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and the Trump International Hotel in Central Park West. Trump moved his official residence from Trump Tower to Florida in 2019.
