Dresden. Dresden has been shut down for months. Bars have been closed since the beginning of November, the retail trade in large parts since mid-December. But there is hope of new openings for the Dresdeners. We introduce shops and restaurants that are about to open.
Peter Pane am Postplatz
The burger chain Peter Pane actually wanted to open a new restaurant in the Lebendiges Haus on Postplatz in autumn 2020. But because of the ongoing lockdown, there is “only” one delivery service there.
“Even in challenging times, Peter Pane’s team continues to look ahead and is initially starting with ‘Peter Bringt’s’ in Dresden”, announced the company. Until the gates to the new restaurant in the Lebendiges Haus at Postplatz are allowed to open, the people of Dresden can since then have the burger creations in the online shop at peter-bringts.de to order.
A total of 45 employees bring orders straight to customers’ homes. In addition to the burgers, the menu also includes chips, salads and cocktails. Founder Patrick Junge started the restaurant four years ago.
He wants to focus on fresh ingredients and a relaxed atmosphere, there are now 40 locations. In order to avoid work stoppages even during the restaurant closings, the crew members swap trays for bicycles and deliver their customers’ online orders to their front door – contactless.
Restaurant Elbegarten in Loschwitz
In November everything was finally ready, staff was hired and Andreas Wünsche wanted to open his Elbegarten restaurant right at the foot of the Blue Wonder in Loschwitz.
But the lockdown thwarted his plans. To date, no guests have seen the brand new fireplace and spring room, not even the common room and the actual restaurant. “We wait every day for a signal when we can open,” says Wünsche.
Two menus for the fall and Christmas sales were written and ended up in the trash. “Hopefully now we can serve the dishes from the spring menu,” he said.
Wishes had already hired his head chef and manager in spring 2020. At that time, however, a burst water pipe had delayed the opening.
Aldi on Löbtauer Strasse
The supermarket chain Aldi wants to open a new store on Löbtauer Strasse this summer. In addition, the existing branches are to be modernized, said company spokeswoman Verena Lissek when asked by SZ.
The focus should be on more space and wider aisles as well as an increased range of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and baked goods. And in future, the non-food special offers such as clothing, tools or garden items will be bundled in one aisle.
Lidl on Annenstrasse
The discounter Lidl is planning a new branch on Annenstrasse, which is expected to open at the end of this year. “In addition, we will carry out individual modernization measures in existing Dresden branches,” says Jens Köhler, real estate manager at Lidl’s regional company in Radeburg.
Cross River Coffee in Löbtau
A few days ago Wilson Ndzi opened his “Cross River Coffee” on Rudolf-Renner-Strasse in Löbtau. “With that, I fulfilled my wish to be able to deliver the coffee from the coffee farmers directly to partner roasters and customers,” he says. Due to the corona, he only sells coffee and coffee packs to take away.
Not only does the coffee come from the highlands in northwest Cameroon, but also the company founder Wilson Ndzi himself. Coffee has been grown there by small farmers for decades.
Wilson now lives with his own family in Germany. In order to do something for the people in his homeland, the region around Nkambé, as well as for the local infrastructure, an idea was quickly born: to import the green coffee to Germany.
This is gently roasted using the so-called drum method. “The coffee is easier to digest and its natural flavors come into their own,” he says. When the corona lockdown is over, not only coffees, but also cakes and sandwiches should be sold in the café.
Café Italia im Elbepark
In February, the Elbepark will also reopen as soon as possible. Café Italia opens there on the ground floor, says center manager Gordon Knabe. In addition, Juwelier Scholze is expanding and moving from the upper to the ground floor, and the comic portal will also be significantly larger than before with 130 square meters.
“We are currently in talks to locate a Levis store, but that is not yet clear,” says Knabe. One of the two vacant spaces could then find a new user.
