The epidemic situation is deteriorating in Occitania
The latest epidemiological monitoring indicators disseminated by Public Health France highlight a clear increase in the circulation of the virus in Occitanie. Incidence rates have risen sharply in recent days in all of the region’s departments, approaching or even exceeding 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
This increase currently affects all age groups and especially the youngest. Between the last week of 2020 and the first of 2021, incidence rates increased on average by 50% for the entire population, 37% among those over 65 and 82% among those aged 10-20.
At the same time, there is a slight increase in screening rates (+ 16% in Occitania) and a greater increase in positivity rates (+ 33% in Occitanie).
New patient flow on the rise
This warning signal has not yet resulted in a strong impact in hospitals and their intensive care or resuscitation departments in particular. However, the number of new hospital admissions for covid remains at a high level in Occitanie and the flow of new hospitalized patients has tended to increase in recent days.
In the field, healthcare teams are already mobilized to deal with a new epidemic rebound, the current level of activity already remaining close to that of last spring. Finally, at the regional level, the number of reports of cases among residents in nursing homes has stabilized at a level which has also remained quite high in recent weeks in Occitanie.
Vaccination is accelerating
This is why vaccination is accelerating and increasing everywhere in Occitania, to protect our elders and all priority professionals: caregivers, firefighters or home helpers over the age of 50 and / or with risk factors. .
