The game between the Boston Celtics and the Orlando Magic on Wednesday in the NBA was postponed due to the coronavirus as the former lacked a minimum roster of available players, league officials reported on Tuesday, January 12.
That game marks the fifth postponement of the three-week season due to virus issues and came after NBA team owners met with the players’ union about covid-19 health and safety protocols. .
It is the Celtics’ third game in four days that has been postponed, a streak that began Sunday when Miami was unable to put the minimum of eight players on the court to face Boston due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing.
The Celtics also saw on Monday how Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Bulls was postponed.
The league said testing and contact tracing between the Celtics left the team without eight capable players on the court.
That announcement came as the Washington Wizards signaled that they would place two unidentified players on the covid-19 reserve list and canceled a workout Tuesday as a result.
The first posts on the NBA club injury list Tuesday showed eight players out of the Miami Heat due to covid-19 health and safety protocols, including star Jimmy Butler.
The Heat, after completing contact tracing, also put center Bam Adebayo and Slovenian Goran Dragic on the list of health protocols, among others.
The NBA had also postponed the game between the New Orleans Pelicans against the Mavericks in Dallas on Monday.
