The documentation is on the tables of the National Agency for the evaluation of the university and research system. And it is well before the deadline of January 31st. The degree course in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Basilicata runs fast. So much so that – if the process does not have any last minute hitches – the courses in Basilicata will start next October 1st. The papers, the ones that must first have the OK of the Anvur and then of the National University Council are ready. Forwarded to Rome for the continuation of the path for the establishment of the course of study. The feverish work, consummated in the month of December, has produced results and now these two steps are missing to get the final ok for the activation of the course. Bureaucratic issues, therefore, which are added to the work in the field that the top management of the University, starting with the rector Ignazio Mancini, are carrying out to define spaces and laboratories but also to identify personnel, subjects and perspectives, also in terms of specializations.
Sixty places for enrollment in the Lucanian University compared to 18 professors, including professors and researchers, who must be used for the first year. Students and professors, therefore, but also specializations. Like those that, in some way, could be linked to the study courses in engineering and biotechnology. Because the “dream” of the Lucanian University to graduate doctors could also lead to the training of other indispensable figures in the world of health in general, such as economic experts – management of health systems or experts in automation.
In short, an articulated path that – once completed – could allow the University of Basilicata to diversify its offer in the various healthcare sectors. All obviously with a look at the accounts. Because the establishment of the Lucanian degree course requires an economic commitment from the Ministry of University and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Health and the Basilicata Region itself. The initial dowry of the program is, in fact, 26 million euros. Two million for the first three years will be assigned by Miur, three million for the first three years will be given by the Ministry of Health while the Basilicata Region will assign three million in the first year and four million a year for the next two years. Money that, then, the Region could increase when the Agreement, signed 12 years ago, which provided for 10 million euros to Unibas for its activities by the regional government, will be re-discussed. But we will have to wait until the end of 2021. In the meantime, we are working not only on the program of the first year but also on that of the following years. Starting from the agreements with the Lucanian health structures for the training of students who, starting from the three years, will do internships in the Lucanian hospital wards.
