Today “Blackout Day” at OZ Rosenau – with video clip

What do we need electricity for every day? And how does the energy get into the socket? Today, Monday, January 11, 2021, the pupils of the Rosenau Upper School will find out for themselves what it means if the power fails. As part of the climate school program, the school is holding a Blackout Day – a school day without any electricity.

Blackout Day is the second day of action of the Rosenau upper school in the four-year MYBLUEPLANET climate school education and climate protection program. At the end of August the school started with the motto «D’Rosenau since CO2 bye!» in the program. On the “Initial Day”, the pupils were allowed to listen and get their first input on climate protection.

Surprise for students and teachers

Now it is necessary to create direct concern on Blackout Day and master a school day with a simulated power failure. This surprisingly and without any preparation.

Today, January 11, 2021, the Rosenau secondary school will cut the power to teach the students how to use resources carefully through their own experience. Neither the computer nor the coffee machine do their job on Blackout Day – alternatives are in demand! This day of action is also a challenge for the teachers and shows how naturally we live with electricity and shows where we can save energy in everyday life.
