Skate Canada has made the decision to cancel the 2021 Canadian Figure Skating Championships and the Skate Canada Cup due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is what the organization announced in a statement Monday.
The first event was to be held in Vancouver from February 8-14. It was to serve as a selection for the World Championships, which were scheduled for next March in Sweden.
For its part, the 2021 Skate Canada Cup was to be held virtually, but still fell victim to the ax. This competition was aimed at novices and pre-novices.
“Due to the continuous change in requirements across the country, the inability of our athletes to train due to the closure of the rinks and the number of participants who would be required to travel, it became evident that It would not be possible to host these events, ”Skate Canada CEO Debra Armstrong said in her organization’s press release.
“The health and safety of our community is our priority and we thank you all for taking the necessary precautions and doing what you can to limit the spread of COVID-19,” she added.
