Kazuyoshi Miura Half A Century Late, Yokohama FC Still Adding Contract

Japanese Club, Yokohama FC, retaining players half a century past, Kazuyoshi Miura. The 53-year-old footballer has a new contract until next season.

The confirmation regarding Miura’s contract extension was announced by the official J-League Twitter account, @J_League_En.

“At 11:11 am, January 11, Yokohama FC announced the big news regarding # 11: contract renewal of the 53-year-old, forward Kazuyoshi Miura’s contract for the 2021 season!” read the J-League statement.

“My aspirations and passion for football continue to grow,” said Miura In a statement on the BBC, Miura is already the oldest player in the J-League. He will turn 54 on February 26, 2021, or the day before the new J-League season rolls around again.

For Miura, this will be his 17th season with Yokohama FC. He has joined the club which was founded in 1999.

With Yokohama FC, Miura has played 292 times. He was able to contribute 27 goals for Pulley.

In the J1 League last season, Miura recorded 4 matches. He did not contribute goals for Yokohama FC when he started once and became a substitute three times.

Miura currently holds the record for being the oldest goalscorer in the Japanese professional football scene. He did it with Yokohama FC against Thespakusatsu Gunma in the J2 League in 2017. At that time, Miura scored a goal at the age of 50 years and 14 days.

In the Japanese national team, Miura recorded 89 appearances. He was able to score as many as 55 goals for the Samurai Blue team.
