sz Siegen / Düsseldorf. The state parenting elementary schools reacted to the recent lockdown decisions with strong criticism. The capacities of many elementary school children and parents are exhausted or used up after a long phase of the “untenable state”, according to the organization’s announcement.
Enable participation in education
The decision to suspend classroom teaching in primary schools and to send all primary school children to distance lessons can perhaps be understood due to the worsening pandemic situation, but it still presents parents with enormous challenges and unsettles many children and parents. “It is imperative to enable all pupils to participate in education again and to have the opportunity to come into contact with one another again.”
The consequences of the elementary school closings in the spring are clearly visible: “For a long time, children had to forego the all-important contact, families got into dire straits due to the double burden of work and simultaneous care for the children. Far too many children were not reached through distance learning or were overwhelmed with it. “
Parents and children are now faced with this fact again and a moderate concept that is acceptable to all parties has still not been developed.
The state parents welcomed the announcement of children’s sickness benefit for ten additional days. Unfortunately, the practical implementation is not yet regulated by law, which makes it difficult for parents and employers to implement it quickly.
Children have to experience school
With all the advantages of distance education, elementary school children need personal address and direct experience in the school community for further positive development. Regardless of the fact that long-term care must be guaranteed by the parents, independent work with the – if any – digital means is only possible to a limited extent, especially for children of primary school age.
If some of the children do not receive an education at all and many receive noticeably little, this has an impact on their life and development opportunities. “This means that the smallest of needy people in particular carry far too great a burden on their backs.”
Even if, in principle, a safe form of face-to-face teaching is essential for primary school children, children with previous illnesses and children whose next of kin have previous illnesses must have the option of complete teaching at a distance.
