A little celebrity fascinates nature lovers in the Unterallgäu: a special bird roams around here, although it otherwise likes to be warmer.

It is one of the brown ibis. About half the size of a great egret, dainty slim with a long, curved beak, it is an extraordinary eye-catcher in our area. When it began to snow in Jengen, the bird moved to the north-west and found a place on the Mindel, where it successfully searches for food.

As a migratory bird, it overwinters mainly in Africa, partly also in southern Spain and the Middle East. The brown ibis mainly lives in swampy areas and shallow waters. “Our bird will probably move to the Rhine or the Lake Constance area when it gets colder here,” suspects the bird expert Colin MacKenzie.
