Six defendants are tried, this Monday, January 11, 2021, before the Montpellier Court. They are suspected of having participated, from near or far, the theft of precious jewels : diamonds, gold necklaces and bracelets, rings, the total value of which is estimated at nearly two million euros. They belonged to an 88-year-old lady, housed in a high-end residence for seniors, located in the Near Arènes district of Montpellier.
At the end of December 2019, the octogenarian wakes up with a start and comes face to face with hooded people. Burglars are attracted to these precious jewels kept in a safe that they manage to steal. There is nothing the old lady can do to stop them.
How did these thieves get into this apartment? The residence is secure : it is equipped with a video surveillance camera and you must use a badge to enter. Investigators suspect the two former caregivers. About ten days later, they were arrested, along with part of the booty.
Today, six defendants are on trial. They recognized the facts, but did not reveal what happened to most of the jewelry.
