As pleasant as the 89:77 success in Bonn, the fourth win of the season, may be for Bundesliga basketball team s.Oliver Würzburg: The baskets and coach Denis Wucherer and his assistant Steven Key are now facing a problem that should not be underestimated. Due to the injuries of Zach Smith and now recently of Justin Sears and after the termination of the contract with Taylor Persons, the playing team has shrunk considerably.
Due to the halved budget compared to the previous year, the squad was compiled quite optimistically anyway – there are also players, which has been shown in the eleven games of the season who have to stretch a lot in order to be able to keep up at least at a decent Bundesliga level. Wucherer currently has three healthy import players at his disposal: Brekkott Chapman, Tyson Ward and Cameron Hunt, all of whom gave a strong performance in Bonn. Two rookies and one who last played in third grade.

Even if the most recent win for the Baskets was as miraculous as it was wonderful, especially after Sears were eliminated after a quarter of an hour, it carries a danger. It reads: You see, that’s how it works!
It probably doesn’t work. It is a false security. Because: Such acts of strength as on Saturday, in which even against nominally much stronger opponents, passionate commitment to exceeding the actual physical performance and an oversized heart conceal a manageable individual class, can certainly not be repeated indefinitely in one season. It could end fatally if the Baskets feel in a false sense of security due to the good but ultimately unsuccessful performance against second Crailsheim or this victory in Bonn.

The look at the game plan
Just look at the game plan. After the business trip to Frankfurt next Sunday, I’m off to Berlin and Oldenburg before Munich arrives. So three games that these baskets will not win, even with hectic signings, from a human perspective. Early to mid-February will be important, with the opponents Göttingen, Giessen and MBC.
At least two, after Sears’ probably protracted injury, probably better three new ones will be needed by then – if reaching the season goal relegation shouldn’t turn into a ride on the razor blade. So now it is no longer just the team and the coaches who are in demand – but also the club and its new shareholders, who can show what it is worth to them to at least reduce the probability of a relegation rodeo.
