The new crown pneumonia epidemic in Hong Kong continues. Today (9th) 59 new confirmed cases were newly confirmed, of which 6 were imported cases, 53 were local infections, including 20 involving infections of unknown origin, 33 were related to previous cases, and more than 20 A preliminary confirmed case. Zhang Zhujun, Director of the Infectious Disease Division of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health, and Dr. Yu Huiling, Chief Administrative Manager (Medical Effectiveness and Technology Management) of the Hospital Authority, attended the press conference to explain the epidemic.

Zhang Zhujun mentioned that the 6 imported cases included 3 people arriving in Hong Kong from Pakistan from January 5 to 7; 1 person arriving in Hong Kong from Russia; another 1 person arriving from the Philippines and 1 person arriving in Hong Kong via Singapore from Indonesia.

Among the local cases, a group of infections occurred in the tunnel project in the middle section of the Central Kowloon Route. One worker was diagnosed yesterday, and the other 6 workers were initially diagnosed today. In addition, FEHD staff have been diagnosed recently. Two of them work for the office in Yau Tsim Mong District and involve the family of one person.

Regarding the number of confirmed cases once again rose to nearly 60, Zhang Zhujun said that it is difficult to predict the epidemic with one or two days of numbers. He believes that it may be related to the after-long holiday, reflecting the possible invisible transmission chain in the community. More than 20 preliminary confirmed cases were recorded today.

Asked whether the public gathering during the long holiday in the past was the reason for the rebound of the epidemic, Zhang Zhujun pointed out that a few confirmed cases had attended a family gathering at the beginning of the year, but that not everyone was involved, and some people were with their families instead of going out. She continued that if there is community transmission, there is a chance of infection due to contact with people or the environment.
