In Greece, the corona restrictions are initially being extended by one week. They should end on Monday, but will now run until at least January 18th. The decision is justified with the fear of a third wave of infection. After the slight easing over the Christmas holidays, a significant increase in the number of cases had been recorded, the health authority announced on Friday.
However, daycare centers, elementary schools and special schools will at least be reopened from Monday. Other restrictions that have been in place since the beginning of November remain in place. Most of the shops are closed. Only those who have previously sent a corresponding SMS to the civil defense are allowed out of the house. The way to work, visits to the doctor, shopping for groceries, exercise or even walking the dog are permitted. On the other hand, people are prohibited from leaving the region in which they live without a valid reason.
In addition, Greece tightened the entry rules on Friday – anyone entering the country has to go into quarantine for seven days instead of the previous three days. According to the authorities, this new regulation will apply from Friday at midnight and initially until January 21st.
