In Kamchatka, Russia’s Far East, some of the ice walls of a 40-meter-high frozen waterfall suddenly collapsed, causing tourists to suffer.
On the 7th (local time), Russia’s state-run TASS news agency quoted the local disaster authority, the Emergency Department, and delivered this message.
According to reports, a block of ice fell from the 40-meter-high frozen Vilyuchinsky Falls, one of the most famous tourist destinations south of Kamchatka during the day.
The Ministry of Emergency Management said that the wind killed one tourist and injured three seriously.
The Emergency Department sent rescue helicopters to the scene and transported the injured to a nearby hospital, Tas said.
The Vilyuchinsky Falls are believed to have been formed by melting glaciers on the slopes of the Vilyuchinsky volcano.
This waterfall freezes hard in winter and is also known as the Tsar’s Icicle.
Local experts have analyzed the possibility that the ice in the waterfall may have suddenly collapsed under the influence of a volcanic avalanche.
