Lockdown? Do like David Guetta

Inspiration for Millennials # 58. Develop your own personality with Young Science Ambassador Gerhard Furtmüller. This time: How do you use the curfew?

In the last column I explained to you how fundamental a thankful review is for a peaceful start to the year. Today I’ll go one step further and show you how important it is to use this difficult time for yourself.

Sluggish lockdowns

During this challenging time, some people become unproductive. It is the same with many musicians because of them
1. the income and
2. the feedback
lack of their performance.

Income falls away

Producing music during lockdown actually makes little sense to artists from a commercial perspective. They lack the audience that is a central – if not THE central – source of income for them.

Financial perspective is zero

This non-existent income can hardly be compensated by digital business models such as publishing the songs on Spotify or similar platforms. This leaves the artists without any financial perspective for their creative work.

Driveless

In addition, the artists lose another motivational factor: The presence audience is not only the monetary but also the artistic source of life for the musicians. The artists lacked applause, which is probably responsible for at least part of the driving force of the artist.

Feedback as a Motivator

This is also the result of an artist survey that I carried out with a student 10 years ago. This study showed that for artists the stage presence – and with it the clapping and laughing, and sometimes the booing of the audience – was the real driving force. This research result was implicitly confirmed by the famous DJ David Guetta, who said in an interview that he would rather perform on the stage than work in a quiet room.

Nevertheless, compared to other artists, David decided to produce new songs – and thus to confront his unproductiveness. This role model can also be a motivational boost for you; so this time I ask you: “How do you use the curfew?”
