David Attenborough achieved a record 3.2 million Instagram followers within a day and a half and is now more than double, but the biologist has no desire to return to the social medium. After his stop in November, there will be no follow-up, he now says.
Two months after joining the social medium, 94-year-old Attenborough decided to stop posting. While he still has over six million followers, he’s not coming back.
“I am far too old and cannot get used to all the new media. I let myself be persuaded now because I thought it important to draw attention to climate change. But now I am no longer on it and I do not plan to ever return. I’m busy enough answering the regular mail, “said the television producer in conversation with BBC Radio 1.
Attenborough receives an average of 70 letters a day, all of which he tries to answer personally. “Fortunately, there are sometimes people who don’t include their addresses, I think to take a little pressure off me. Or because they are not used to sending letters.”
The Briton had a million followers within four hours and 44 minutes. Never before has someone managed to attract so many followers so quickly. Jennifer Aniston was the record holder with five hours and sixteen minutes before that. The record has since been broken by Harry Potter-actor Rupert Grint.
